College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
CLEP exams are designed as a way for adults to demonstrate their knowledge of college-level material that may have been gained through self-study, work place experience, extracurricular work or academic study. CLEP exams are suitable for adults wanting to return to school or entering for the first time. Special programs are available for people with military experience. As CLEP is accepted by many colleges and universities it can be useful to many other people wanting to prove their academic ability. Homeschoolers would be one group.
One way CLEP works for students is the ability to gain college credits without the high cost of college. Typical fees for courses can run to $600 per credit, even after paying for study materials it should be possible to complete a CLEP credit for around $100. The free study gudies and other resources found on the following pages will help you achive this benefit.
